  • Code of Behaviour

The practice of martial arts places a great emphasis on the development of the character of its students, and a code of behaviour is used, together with the physical training, so that technical skill, physical fitness and good behaviour become synonymous with it’s way. The code is based on mutual respect of teachers and students, and acknowledges that respect must be shown for seniority. Practitioners are expected to show the same respect for the society in which they live, and for those who live in and administer that society.

All MPOWER Martial Arts members have a duty to behave in a way which will maintain and enhance this reputation on behalf of their club and the wider Association to which they belong. As such the following list has been compiled to help guide students as they set off on a fulfilling journey with us.

    Dojang Etiquette:

    • Always bow or show respect on entering and leaving the Dojang/ training hall.
    • Junior grades must bow to their seniors.
    • Instructors should be referred to as Sir or Miss.
    • Nails must be kept clean and short enough to avoid scratching and cutting.
    • Shoes and socks are to be removed before training. Good personal hygiene is a must.
    • Jewellery/watches should not be worn. If it is not possible to remove rings or earrings, they should be safely covered.
    • During class students must line up in order of seniority with the highest grade positioned front-right.
    • Late arrivals should enter the Dojang quietly, change and warm up. When they wish to join the class, they must kneel to the side of the class and watch carefully for the Instructor’s signal to join in. When the signal is given they should stand, bow, then walk quickly and quietly round to the back of the class
    • To aid concentration in class please keep any noise to a minimum. Particularly at the beginning and end of class when students must bow in.
    • If any student or family member would like to speak to the Instructor we ask that you approach them at the end of class to avoid class disruption.

    Training Suits and Belts:

    • It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that their suit fits correctly and is kept clean and in a good state of repair. The appropriate coloured belt, including any stripes or tabs, must be worn with the suit at all times.

    Protective Equipment:

    • It is mandatory that all students purchase their protective gear from the MPOWER website to ensure equipment is safe, of the correct standard & complies with regulations. Use of substandard equipment can lead to injury & will not be allowed.

Training At Another Dojang/ Training Hall:

    • An MPOWER license will only insure you to train at an MPOWER affiliated Dojang/ training hall.

    Competitions:

    • For all intents and purposes, the competition arena should be treated as the Dojang, & the same respect must be shown to seniors, referees, spectators, officials & to other martial artists. It is important to exhibit exemplary behaviour with regard to dress, sportsmanship & general deportment both in & out of the competition area.

    Outside The Dojang:

    • MPOWER students are to refrain from any violent behaviour in & out of the Dojang.
    • Please do not make any derogative comments about MPOWER Martial Arts Ltd, its instructors or members on any social media sites. (Directly or indirectly)

    Complaints Procedure:

    • For any complaint concerning either class or competition issues please approach the instructor in the first instance.
